I Became a Tourist

Having grown up just a Path ride away from NYC, heading into the city was never a big deal. Art classes at the MET, catching a matinee with my school ID and jaunts into the Village when I should have been at my SAT prep courses were par for the course.

Now, living over 60 miles away from the city that never sleeps, heading into NYC takes advance planning and whether driving or taking the train, the trip can take anywhere from 45-minutes to two hours.

During a recent trip into the city with the ladies to see a show, I realized how much I miss the frequent trips I once took for granted.  In fact, for the first time in my life, I felt like a tourist.  I found myself gaping at the billboards, the Times Square crowds and giddy at finding SpiderMan selling pretzels – AND I took his picture!  TOTAL tourist move.

I think my once or twice a year trips into the city need to increase.  I need to take advantage of the fact that my children can really appreciate the shows and museums.  With Spring Break just a month of two away, I am going to make it a point to bring the children to the Museum of Natural History and maybe just a quick pop-in to FAO Schwartz.  AND I will bring my camera, but only to capture the children’s awe and amazement and not my own – of course 😉
